Shahid Malik, the MP who led the fight to save Mirfield’s Castle Hall school and stop the unwanted expansion of The MFG has reacted with delight today that the school has been saved by the independent schools adjudicator. “I am absolutely delighted at this result. The whole community has got behind the campaign and I am immensely proud to have been at the forefront with them."

A state-of-the-art training centre for West Yorkshire’s Fire and Rescue Service will be opened by Dewsbury and Mirfield MP and Fire Services Minister Shahid Malik this Thursday. The centrally funded £2.3m Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) centre, based at the Birkenshaw headquarters, will be used to train firefighters across the region. It includes a specialist training rig, offices, classrooms, showers, washrooms, toilets and kit storage.

The deadline for submissions to the Schools Adjudicator has been extended until the 23rd of December. Adjudicator Canon Lindley has decided to extend the deadline specifically for parents in Ravensthorpe.

Gordon Brown paid tribute to REACH campaigners Karen Rowling and Alan Wilkinson at 10 Downing Street last Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s Community Heroes reception. The meeting with the Prime Minister and his wife Sarah was arranged by the Dewsbury and Mirfield MP Shahid Malik.
