A free town centre bus service for Dewsbury is being launched this Saturday, December 12. Speaking at the official launch of the service on Friday Dewsbury & Mirfield MP Shahid Malik has welcomed the new service: "The new bus service will give people easier access to Dewsbury's wide range of shops and services and will be a great help to people trying to get around town."

After a meeting last Friday at Dewsbury Town Hall a broad partnership has begun to emerge to spearhead the much needed regeneration of Dewsbury. It comprises Shahid Malik MP as Chair of Dewsbury stakeholders, Cllr Paul Kane as Chair of the Area Committee regeneration board and Cllr David Sheard as Kirklees Cabinet lead for regeneration.

Dewsbury and Mirfield MP Shahid Malik proudly opened the art exhibition at Dewsbury’s Options Create Centre on George Street Dewsbury last week. Forty artists displayed their work, supporting the ‘Second Chance’ Programme that enables the commission from all sales to benefit vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the community.

Dewsbury and Mirfield MP Shahid Malik has taken up the case of a broken wall alongside St Mary’s Church in Mirfield. The wall, on Church Lane, has collapsed and there is a question whether the responsibility for the repairs belongs to Kirklees Council or the church itself.

Dewsbury and Mirfield MP Shahid Malik has helped secure £50,000 for Dewsbury Celtic from the Irish Government. The MP has been assisting the club in their plans to build new facilities in Crow Nest Park. Celtic, who currently field 11 teams, were granted planning permission last year for their Junior Pavilion Project. Extra funding to build the new facilities is desperately needed before the planning expires next year.

Parents, pupils, teachers and governors of Castle Hall school were joined last Thursday by Dewsbury and Mirfield MP Shahid Malik as they celebrated the outstanding achievements of year 9 and 11 pupils. The event at Huddersfield Town Hall was attended by over 200 people.

Shahid Malik’s second annual veterans event last Saturday was hailed as a 'great success' with over 250 attending. Guests were treated to refreshments and a light lunch while listening to a medley of wartime anthems from 40’s singer Caroline Romley.
