Housing Minister John Healey joined local MP Shahid Malik yesterday to meet builders returning to work on new homes in Dewsbury thanks to Government support.

Mr Healey joined local MP and fellow Communities Minister Shahid Malik on a visit to the Brewery Street development, which is back in action thanks to £2.2million Government funding through the Kickstart programme. The development was at a standstill due to market conditions and would have remained so. But thanks to this funding work will restart on 77 new homes - 56 of which will be much-needed three, four and five-bedroom family homes.

John Healey MP:

"The Brewery Street development had been stalled by the recession, but thanks to £2.2million Government cash, work is restarting on these new family homes.

"The power of Government investment is supporting the construction industry when it is most needed, with over £3billion released for housebuilding since June.  What I've seen today in Dewsbury is an illustration of how this funding is being used to create and protect jobs while building the homes the country needs."

Shahid Malik MP:

“It's a good feeling as a government minister to help to bring deserved money into your area, and to know it will make a real difference.

“This project is great news for Dewsbury. Not only does it provide 50 new jobs, but it will help first time buyers get on the housing ladder, provide adapted homes for older people and offer new family homes for local people.
